Provincial legislation, the CMTBC Bylaws, and the College’s Code of Ethics provide the framework for regulating the practice of massage therapy in British Columbia.
The Health Professions Act, Health Professions General Regulation, and Massage Therapists Regulation govern massage therapy in BC. See Health Professions Act & Regulations.
The Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act and Personal Information Protection Act are two other acts that apply to RMTs. See Other Legislation for RMTs.
The CMTBC Bylaws outline rules for governance and administration of the College, set expectations for RMTs in areas such as quality assurance and standards of practice, and establish fees, among other functions. See CMTBC Bylaws. Changes to the Bylaws require Board and Ministry of Health approval. See Proposed Bylaw Amendments.
The CMTBC Code of Ethics outline the expectations for ethical massage therapy practice. See the Code of Ethics.
