CMTBC registration renewal for 2024 opens November 1, 2023

Registration renewal for 2024 opens November 1, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. PDT. Registrants who wish to maintain their professional status as practising RMTs must renew their Practising registration. Registrants not currently practising must renew their Non-practising registration.

The deadline for renewing your registration for 2024 is December 15, 2023. You are encouraged to renew your registration as soon as possible after November 1, 2023. Renewing registration after December 15, 2023 will result in a $100 late renewal fee.

The final deadline for late renewal is December 31, 2023. Failure to renew by December 31, 2023 will result in automatic loss of registration.

Renewal should be done online, on the CMTBC Registrant Portal. CMTBC has posted an instructional video on registration renewal. Please watch the video if you are uncertain about any aspect of the renewal process.

If you require assistance, CMTBC staff will be available to help you until 3:00 pm on December 22, 2023. Please note that the College will be closed between December 23, 2023 and January 1, 2024 and will re-open on January 2, 2024. If you require assistance, contact Registration Services at [email protected] well before 3:00 pm on December 22, 2023.

Checklist: Registration renewal requirements

Before renewing, ensure that registration renewal requirements have been met:

  • You hold valid professional liability insurance. Have your certificate of insurance available for uploading in the Registrant Portal.
  • You hold valid certification in Standard First Aid and CPR-C. If you have recently re-certified, have your certificate available for uploading in the Registrant Portal.
  • Outstanding fees and fines (if any) are paid. (In the Registrant Portal, click “Invoices” in the menu at the left to pay outstanding fees and fines before beginning the registration renewal process.)

As noted in the October 17, 2023 CMTBC news story, there is no requirement for RMTs to complete, in 2023, either self-directed courses for continuing education credits (CECs) or a CMTBC-authored online course to renew registration for 2024.

Where to renew your registration: Registrant Portal

Beginning November 1, 2023, log on to the Registrant Portal, click the “Renew Registration” button in your Dashboard (or click “Renew Registration” in the menu at the left), and follow the instructions.

Registration Renewal fees for 2024:

  • Practising: $750
  • Non-practising: $375

Impact of CMTBC amalgamation

On September 26, 2023, CMTBC posted a news story on the current state of health regulatory college amalgamation in British Columbia. As one of the amalgamating colleges, CMTBC will become part of a new complementary health care college (exact name still to be announced), together with the colleges currently regulating acupuncturists and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners, chiropractors, and naturopaths.

Planning for this transition is now in progress. At this point, CMTBC’s understanding is that registration renewal fees paid for 2024 will be transferred to the new college as of the amalgamation date – June 28, 2024 – and that the registration period for BC RMTs will remain, as it is at present, the full 2024 calendar year. This means that, practically speaking, there will be no change to registration requirements, including quality assurance requirements, for the 2024 calendar or registration year.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
