On October 14, 2016, BC Health Minister Terry Lake issued an order amending the Health Professions General Regulation to permit emergency administration of naloxone. As a result, RMTs are now permitted to administer naloxone to individuals who appear to be suffering from an opioid overdose, provided that the treatment is limited to emergency first-aid administration by intramuscular injection or intranasally, and is not performed in a hospital setting.
This new provision overrides the general restriction in the Massage Therapists Regulation on administering medications.
