Reminder: Practising RMTs must complete Quality Assurance requirements by October 31, 2024

This is a reminder that Practising RMTs must complete this year’s Practice Development Program requirements and the 2024 mandatory online course, Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism, by October 31, 2024, as registration renewal requirements for 2025.

Important: despite CMTBC’s amalgamation with three other health regulatory colleges to form the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) on June 28, 2024, these requirements remain in effect.

Who is required to complete the Practice Development Program and mandatory online course?

RMTs that held Practising status as of January 1, 2024, as well as current Practising RMTs whose practising registration lapsed but who reinstated their registration with the College on or before March 31, 2024, are required to complete both this year’s Practice Development Program requirements and the 2024 mandatory online course, Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism, as registration renewal requirements for 2025.

The following groups are not required to complete these requirements in 2024:

  • RMTs initially registered with the College on or after January 1, 2024
  • RMTs who converted from non-practising to practising status on or after January 1, 2024
  • RMTs who reinstated their registration on or after April 1, 2024

Will the Quality Assurance requirements for registration renewal 2025 change as a result of amalgamation on June 28?

No, completion of both the annual Practice Development Program requirements and the mandatory online course, Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism, as registration renewal requirements for 2025 will not change as a result of amalgamation.

While the Quality Assurance program may change and evolve over time, the program and requirements will remain the same once CCHPBC is created on June 28, 2024.

Draft Bylaws for CCHPBC are now available for public feedback on the temporary CCHPBC website’s Bylaws page. The proposed Bylaws do not include changes to quality assurance requirements.

Practice Development Program

The College encourages all RMTs who have not already done so to log in to the PDP Portal and start completing their PDP requirements. It is important that RMTs give themselves enough time to familiarize themselves with the PDP Portal and PDP requirements for successful completion.

RMTs are required to complete the following PDP requirements by October 31, 2024.

  • Self-assessment;
  • Creation of two specific and meaningful learning goals based on self-assessment results;
  • Selection and completion of two relevant, practice-focused learning activities, one for each specific learning goals;
  • A reflection to evaluate the impact of completed learning activities on practice.

Allowing an appropriate amount of time for each component is vital to ensure that RMTs develop and improve their professional and practice competencies in a meaningful way.

To complete PDP requirements, log in to the PDP Portal.

Further information on the PDP can be found on the following webpages.

Mandatory online course

The 2024 mandatory online course supports RMTs in applying the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism (ICSHAR) Standard of Practice to their practice. The ICSHAR standard sets clear expectations for how RMTs are to provide culturally safe and anti-racist care for Indigenous patients.

All Practising RMTs who are required to complete the ICSHAR course have been automatically enrolled in the course. For information on how to access your Online Course Portal (Brightspace) account and complete the course, see the Online Courses page.

There is no cost to RMTs for initial enrollment in the ICSHAR course. Should an RMT not successfully complete the course by the October 31, 2024 deadline, a re-enrollment fee of $75 must be paid in order to retake the course.
