RMTs are not required to complete CECs or CMTBC online course for 2024 registration renewal

In 2023, there is no requirement for RMTs to complete either self-directed courses for continuing education credits (CECs) or a CMTBC-authored online course to renew registration for 2024. Registration renewal for 2024 will open on November 1, 2023.

RMTs must, however, meet the following registration renewal requirements, in accordance with CMTBC Bylaws:

  • Hold valid professional liability insurance,
  • Maintain current certification in Standard First Aid (SFA)/CPR-C,
  • Ensure all outstanding fees and fines have been paid.

Although there is no requirement to complete courses this year, RMTs are encouraged to continue to engage in any professional development course or activity that will support their practice. RMTs are individually responsible for ensuring that any modality or skills-based training they wish to complete is within the scope of practice for massage therapy in BC, if they plan to incorporate that learning into their practice.

As mentioned in the news story sent in a newsletter to all RMTs on April 20, 2023, CMTBC has redesigned the Quality Assurance (QA) program, moving away from the QA model that required RMTs to report CECs in the Registrant Portal by taking approved activities offered by external courses providers.

The new QA program, which will launch in January 2024, will include the following components:
