Continuing Education Credits

Cycle 12: November 1, 2018 – October 31, 2020

How many continuing education credits (CECs) do you need in Cycle 12?

RMTs who hold Practising status for half or more of Cycle 12 are required to accumulate 24 CECs. Of those 24 CECS, 10 must be obtained from completion of CMTBC’s online course on the Boundaries and Consent standards of practice.

CMTBC’s online course will be available in November 2019. More information on the course will be posted on the CMTBC Online Courses page when the course is available.

RMTs who hold Practising status for less than half of Cycle 12 – including RMTs who are Non-practising for all of Cycle 12 – are required to accumulate 12 CECs. Of those 12 CECs, 10 must be obtained from completion of CMTBC’s online course on the Boundaries and Consent standards of practice.

Here’s a chart that summarizes CEC requirements:

Options for obtaining the remaining CECs required

Aside from receiving 10 CECs for CMTBC’s online course, RMTs receive CECs for completing continuing education activities in two categories:

  • Professional development (PD), and
  • Practical education (PE), which provides instruction in skill development.

The criteria for approval of continuing education activities explain the difference between the categories. Both categories are equal in terms of meeting College requirements.

There is no limit to the number of PD or PE credits that can be accumulated in Cycle 12. All 14 remaining required CECs (for RMTs with Practising status) or 2 remaining required CECs (for RMTs with Non-practising status) can be from PD or PE activities.

Search for approved PD or PE continuing education activities on the Approved Continuing Education Activities – Cycle 12 page.

Deadlines

RMTs need to complete required activities by the end of the cycle: October 31, 2020. Failure to complete required continuing education by that date will result in a non-compliance fee, in an amount set by CMTBC’s Bylaws.

RMTs have until November 30, 2020 to report completed CECs on the Registrant Portal.
